Raja Mahendra
VIKRAMAJIT 1776/1817 (abdicated) and in 1834, adopted from Bijna State, he
entered into relations with the British authorities in 1812, abdicated in
favour of his son, but resumed power on his death. He died 1834.
The origin of name
The district is named
after its headquarters, Tikamgarh. The original name of the town was Tihri. In
1783, the ruler of Orchha Vikramajit (1776–1817) shifted his capital from
Orchha to Tihri and renamed it Tikamgarh (Tikam is one of the names of Krishna).
