A bit of history about Tranvancore:
- Tranvancore is a state located in extreme South west of India. A mint was established in ME965/17891790AD
- This state has a lengthy history before been annexd by the Vijayanagar kingdom. With Vijayanagar’s defeat at the battle of Talikota in 1565,Tranvancore passed under Muslim control until the late eighteenth century when it was merged as a state in its own right under Raja Martanda Varma. This Raja Varma allied with the British to protect against the Muslim dynasty of Mysore. In 1795 the Raja officially accepted a subsidiary alliance with the East India Company and remained under British influence until India’s independence.
