What's My Hobby All About ?

I had started my coin collection at that time I'm just 6 years old I begin my interest in coins. I dream to save India's past.

So I collect coins, so do many other people in the world but what does this mean for me ? What does it mean I actually do ? Do I just see coins, keep them and look for more ? To be a little more precise, I'd much rather call myself a numismatist. The main implication of this being that this is the name given to a person who collects or studies coins. Or in my case, as is that of many, I collect AND study coins. The study of coins makes the collecting a great deal more interesting - in my opinion. It seems that the vast majority of numismatists have a particular field of interest, sometimes this will be quite a narrow area, but not always. My particular field of interest is BC's to AD's coins of India Civilization

Coin collecting is often referred to as the 'king of hobbies' or 'hobby of kings' as it was considered a preoccupation with the rich and the wealthy. Coins can speak volumes - they tell you tales of days gone by, of great leaders, royalty and periods of time. Coins embossed with great faces such as those of William IV or Alexander the Great or Napoleon or Mughal Empire are reminiscent of a specific period in history.

Sometimes coin collectors are looking for personal value in a coin. For example, a completist collector might want only one coin to complete a set. Such a collector would not mind paying several times the value of the coin to acquire it and to complete the set.

You can take a example of mine. As my eyes were bigger than my pocketbook, and I needed a way to finance my interests. I sold 2 bottles of my blood for single old coins.

The Joy in the Hunt

Then there will be the excitement of the hunt. Acquiring an elusive item that you had searched for a long time or managed to identify an unfamiliar coin will give you a sense of joy and accomplishment that is hard to match.

Besides the fun of acquiring coins and the lure of history and distance that they represent, coins are attractive and a masterpiece in itself. They are often beautiful miniature works of art.
